I’m writing a fantasy novel with the objective to teach business through stories.
Imagine a world where 1% of the population is able to utilize elemental magic by harnessing the power of shards taken from elemental spawns. In this world, healing magic is the most valuable resource and as such the Church has a monopoly on the global economy by controlling healing.
The main character is born to a family of merchants with access to low level elemental magic. At 15, he expect to leave his class and become a battle mage or healer because historical data points to stronger elemental magic in offspring from two parents with access to the source. He was trained as a merchant but his dream is to become a great general in the imperial army.
Unfortunately, he instead is bestowed with an affinity with darkness. They’re an ostracized class because instead of harnessing power from elemental shards, they instead make a pact with the demonic spawns represented by 7 deadly sins.
Kael Warren Locke is rejected from the world and so attempts to change the world order. His greed towards his dreams lands him a contract with the Demon Lords of Greed. He is given two simple powers: 1) an infinite storage box called the “the power of the void” and 2) the power to remember what he’s studied and committed to memory called “the power of his shadow”.
With these two powers he moves from insight to insight on his path to world conquest
- I can buy goods and move them between cities without logistics cost thereby selling them at higher profit margins
- I can keep & protect goods for others at a lower cost
- I can keep & protect money for others at a lower cost
- I can lend money to others at a lower cost since I keep & protect money
- I can invest in ideas & people that challenge the world order
With these 5 simple insights, he’s able to change the world order.
I wrote a lot during the first 2 years of Expedock and the pandemic. When Expedock took off in 2022, I stopped writing. I’m getting back to it now. No excuses.
