I’ve had this idea for what my avatar would look like if a VR MMORPG like ready player one finally becomes real for more than a decade now.
I was finally able to express it with after 5 hours on Midjourney yesterday.
I finally got to this image of a
battle mage with bloody black armor
carrying a staff that is aesthetically represented as a scythe or flag
surrounded by a burning fire and dark purple aura
behind him is an enchanted demonic army
this battle mage would be more focused on
buffing allies, de-buffing enemies, terrain control
but he’d still have access to offensive powers in
fire, shadow, and gravity magic
Though most of it would thematically be surrounded around the general concepts of being buffer, de-buffer, and terrain management
This dream play style represents what I perceive to be my own leadership and working style at work.
After getting to these images, a curiosity arose in me - how would I quantify the stats of this character if I played the avatar for real?
Intuitively, I went to chat gpt and asked it to create a character in dungeons and dragons based on this image.
I’m 28 now and I’ve never played D&D for real. I have general familiarity with the concepts through popular culture but I I’ve only played it once and it was a pre-packaged character.
I was so shocked to see the results! These are my stats! This is my perfect character! My leadership and fighting style is focused purely on charisma and constitution! My int and strength are weak! Below average!
My magic comes from my ability to believe in myself and inspire others.
My super power is in my ability to rally people towards a cause.
What keeps me in the game is my constitution. I’m tanky as fuck. I’m resilient. I never go down. No matter the situation. No matter how hard the game mode is.
I do think of myself as a sorcerer, as someone with innate magic expressed through charisma.
I do think of myself as a demon and dragon - the two races generated for me based on the image.
I do think of myself as a sage who spent years studying the lore of the multiverse.
What is the consequence of this insight?
- If I believe this process to capture my own leadership style, would it be able to capture the leadership and play style of my team members better than existing frameworks such as MBTI & Strength finders?
- This process would enable me to understand how my team members think of themselves - do they think of themselves as a healer, a carry hero, a support, etc? I think these play styles bleed into everyday work.
- It also helps me understand who the right people are for a given team - we can’t have everyone acting as support heroes in a team and it’s hard to have 2 carry heroes.
- I think it also helps the team dynamic for people to be proud of their avatar in the workplace. It helps others understand how this person operates and thinks.
- Lastly, I think it’s also just a fun way to get to know
